Brands implement policies that encourage consumers to disconnect from devices
Trend — Restaurants are increasingly implementing device bans that make consumers disconnect and engage in face-to-face conversation or screen-free activities. These policies, often executed with device-locking pouches or no photo rules, create a space where consumers can remove themselves from technology.
Insight — After decades of constant connectivity, consumers are recognizing that consistent technology use may have negative effects and are seeking out experiences to curb the effects of being "chronically online." Now, restaurants are increasingly cultivating spaces where consumers are given no other choice but to be present. They recognize that modern establishments already encourage device use through Wi-Fi and workspaces, and are filling a gap in the market for places that do exactly the opposite.
