The work of Sarah Best can be described with one word: gruesome. Yet if a person left it at that, they would be sorely missing out. Her work is also evocative and provocative. Sarah Best explores the female body in a sadistic way in order to explore the ideas of human connection and intimacy. She writes, "Ultimately what I hope to create is a moment where the inside and outside collapse, allowing closer consideration of self and other."
Based in New York City, Sarah Best essentially mutilates body parts in either by way of sculptures or paintings. By doing so, she encourages her audience to transcend societal definitions of beauty and what it means to be a woman today. Sarah Best's work is both vulnerable and powerful.
