Digital Archetype Sculptures

Christian Rex van Minnen Creates Hand-Blown Jelly-Like Sculptures

Christian Rex van Minnen has gained notoriety for creating artwork that references unique aspects of contemporary culture, including meme culture, new age mysticism, and pornography. The artist’s latest project collaborates with Case Studyo, which sees van Minnen’s jelly objects reference gory themes like beheading. This concept derives from van Minnen’s idea that beheading can symbolize the separation of the mind from the body.

Case Studyo explains that "[t]he severed heads are rendered in a gummy-like transparent texture giving them a feeling of grotesque whimsy and weightlessness, the highest contrast to the traditional heavy chiaroscuro bodies of classical art."

The one-of-a-kind hand-blown glass sculptures come in red, green, and yellow, and all feature creative facial expressions meant to represent digital archetypes. The sculptures also reference van Minnen’s 2021 artwork titled ‘Google Antibodies and the Golden Antigen.’ Interested parties can inquire about the collection via the Case Studyo website.
