This incredible installation by Michelle Forsyth titled 'Drift' appears to be floating in mid air. Thin, clear thread is used to suspend flower cutouts from the ceiling, which give the effect of it hovering gracefully in the air. Right below the installation is a white box onto which shadows are reflected. The piece itself resembles a water current due to the swift of air; however Forsyth's inspiration behind this piece came from the Swiss Air Flight 111 crash.
This mind-boggling piece is a beautiful mix of contemporary art with elements of nature and science. This type of work can also translate into interior design, due to its appeal. These types of ethereal artworks are commonly seen in public venues, but could definitely transition into home decor. Floating pieces not only add suspense to a room, but can make for a great statement piece as well.
