K-Pop fandom expands into branded products & merchandise across various categories

Implications - As K-pop continues to receive recognition overseas as it infiltrates mainstream North American channels, popularity over these international music sensations are resonating in unexpected brand collaborations and product lines. Capitalizing on the influence of not only K-Pop music but the fan base of the individual idols themselves, brands, from those in fashion to skincare and beauty, are tapping into this cultural phenomenon by trying to appeal directly to those audiences. Whether it be tapping K-Pop idols for marketing influence or expanding merchandise into broader categories, the rise of Asian-influenced products in North America not only speaks to growth of cultural influence, but the desire for products that allow consumers to tap into those markets more easily.
