Re-imagining classic denim to give it fresh appeal
Implications - Jeans have a rich history; made popular by Levi's in the early 1900s, they have gone from being associated with workwear, to representing the "rebel" youth in the '50s, to eventually becoming everyone's must-have wardrobe staple. Jeans are regarded as a "basic" apparel item -- consumers expect little innovation when it comes to the design and function of their denim, which means that competition among denim brands is consistently fierce. To stand out, some of today's denim designers are experimenting with offbeat elements -- luminescence, scent, eco-friendly design and more-- to give excitement and newness to an otherwise traditional (and mundane) product.
