Top 100 Food Trends of 2014

From Augmented Reality Snack Boxes to Pumpkin S'more Desserts:

Examining the top 2014 food trends, it is clear that they go well beyond innovative recipes and menu additions. The past year saw creative new packaging ideas, fun food photography and a renewed interest in natural health solutions.

On one hand, consumers were more interested in local, organic and non-processed foods. This was reflected in a desire to reduce waste, as seen with food scrap dining, reactive food labels and unpackaged food markets. On the other, junk food reached new lows (or highs depending on your tastes) resulting in endlessly epic hybrids. For example, food blogs created instant noodle lasagnas and cookie-combined dessert pizzas. In a similar vein, unusual pizza toppings representing different snack foods and even nationalities were introduced, like chip-covered pizza crusts. And of course, we enjoyed pumpkin-spice everything in unprecedented levels.

A deep-dive look at 2014 food trends is available in Trend Hunter's comprehensive food trend report.
