It's estimated by the United Nations Environment Program that more than 1.05-billion metric tons of food is wasted globally each year, which is something the 'FoodTusker' is engineered to help combat against.
The system works by having the user select the type of food that's being stored in the container via the accompanying smartphone app, which will send the data to the device. The container and monitor will remind the user when foods are nearing their expiration, while also monitoring the temperature to ensure they're kept at the right temperature for optimal freshness.
Founder and CEO Steven Hong spoke on the 'FoodTusker' system saying, "Food waste is not just a household inconvenience; it’s a global crisis. Our goal with FoodTusker is to give families an easy, reliable way to track what they already have, so good food doesn’t end up in the trash. With FoodTusker, remembering your leftovers becomes as simple as glancing at a screen or receiving a phone notification.”
