Sustainable, compact and affordable are three qualities that can be found in many of the top April 2015 auto ideas. With smart dashboards and Bluetooth technology that allows drivers to make store payments from within a vehicle, cars are becoming just as smart and as hyperconnected as our homes.

Thanks to 3D printing, the automotive industry continues to see many advances.
For instance, Chinese company Sanya Sihai created a vehicle with a 3D-printed body that only cost about $1,700 to manufacture, making the most of cost and customization. Similarly, a group of students from Nanyang Technological University designed a vehicle that's both 3D-printed and solar powered.

As cars become smarter in their design and capabilities, it's fitting that SXSW 2015 appealed to tech and auto enthusiasts with a workshop on Designing Your Future with the Connected Car.
