Not all of these farmer-supporting organizations are food, however, and some of them support farmers who help to create the oils for perfumes as well as herbal lotions and organic cosmetic products.

Another perhaps unexpected example is a biotrade butterfly business called Alas de Colombia, which is based in El Arenillo, Palmira city, Valle del Cauca, and farms butterflies as a way to create employment opportunities for the communities there. It's part of a larger field, that was inpart influenced by the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) to push trade that involves biodiversity and its support.

From fair trade coffee tours to local food deliveries, these farmer-supporting organizations sustain their mission in different ways but all acknowledge the role of the farmer.
