Tequila Ocho, a producer known for its single-estate approach to tequila, has introduced a new series of expressions called Terroir Select. This launch refines the brand's long-standing mission to demonstrate the influence of geographical origin on the spirit's character.
For the inaugural Terroir Select vintages — dubbed 'Comunidad' — Tequila Ocho sourced blue Weber agave plants from El Nacimiento de Abajo in Arandas, Jalisco, which is "the neighboring community to Ocho's homeplace Tequilera Los Alambiques, as well as its original home of Destilería La Altena."
Tequila Ocho states that with its Terroir Select series, it aims to further the oenological concept of terroir in spirits by highlighting subtle flavor differences imparted by distinct local growing conditions, and to provide direct economic support to small-scale, independent agave farmers during a period of market instability that threatens their livelihood.
