Considering 2012 was a rather ominous year with impending doom at its end -- for the uninitiated, the Mayan calendar ends on December 21st -- health trends were on the top-of-mind for many -- you know, just in case some zombies have to be battled.

Many health trends, such as fast food nutrition charts, took more of a cautionary tone than one of encouragement. Fortunately, not all health finds were so looming, as exemplified by the lighthearted pandemic-fighting backpacks and heart-starting vests.
