This past year saw more creative takes on charity than ever before. Taking the celebrity-endorsed cause marketing pattern of 2012 a step further, 2013 was the year of celebrity-created charities. Some celebrities even went so far as to create and sell pieces for charity, as seen with the celeb-designed ornaments.
Mass participation, whether in the form of crowdfunding, crowdsourcing or even online participation like pay-per-tweet, was another huge charity trend in 2013. This was most notably seen in the selfless selfie Instagram campaign in the name of providing relief for victims of Hurricane Haiyan.
