Candid, quirky and surreal are all great words to describe the direction and mood of the December 2014 photography trends. Although there are some more serious examples including a portrait series focused on people in debt and, of course, staged photoshoots such as the slew of editorials featured in fashion magazines, these descriptors nevertheless identify a larger theme that is embracing fantasy and reality in interesting ways.
As people move away from the ideal standard of beauty, they nevertheless appear to be shifting towards another state of surreality that is much more imaginative and some might argue educational.
