Implications - A fascination with mannequins has surfaced, in which these dummy figures are becoming the primary subjects of some fashion stories and ads. With many consumers still considering real-life models “fake”—due to their impeccable beauty and seemingly unnatural proportions—the use of mannequins puts an ironic, satiric twist on traditional fashion photography. The fashion world may be agreeing with the consumer in that it sees today’s standards of beauty as too perfect and “plastic” as well.
