25 Sustainable Textile Innovations

From Seawater Sustainable Fabrics to Apple Leather Footwear:

These sustainable textile innovations range from seawater sustainable fabrics to apple leather footwear.

With the ongoing climate crisis, sustainability in the fashion industry is more important than ever, with more consumers looking to lower their impact while paying closer attention to their closet's carbon footprint.

Recyclable fabric examples to note include Napapijri's new, fully recyclable Infinity jacket. The garment is mostly crafted from 'Nylon 6,' a signature fabric that consists of fishing nets and other textile scraps. Additionally, examples like the 'SaltyCo' project address new ways to create fabric and insulation without relying on environmentally harmful materials. The project is the work of RCA students who are using seawater as the basis for a next-generation textile that can be later used as an alternative to insulation, faux leather, and both woven and non-woven fabrics.
