With the growing demand for vegan-friendly accessories, Canadian designer Salima Visram launched the leather-free Samara handbags brand.
Samara handbags originally came about because Visram was unable to find ethically-made, vegan handbags that were simple, but didn't cost a fortune. Visram teamed up with her sister and launched a line of bags made from apple leather, which is a material made from the by-product of apple skins. Not only is the material more eco-friendly than synthetic leather, but it also feels as smooth as real leather and can be crafted into sleek, high-fashion shapes. The result is a lineup of tote bags, fanny packs, laptop sleeves, and more, that are chic, simple, and, most importantly, sustainable.
