Vancouver is known for its juxtapositions -- its yuppies and its hippies, its luxury and its poverty, its yogis and its junkies -- but increasingly we are seeing harmony arise between these seemingly opposite forces. This cluster highlights some of the social enterprises in Vancouver we've covered on Social Business thus far.

Those familiar with the city won't be surprised to learn that a lot of the social enterprises in Vancouver focus on the The Downtown Eastside (TDE), or what's often referred to as the poorest postal code in Canada. This area is known for its large homeless population, prevalence of hard drugs (heroin, cocaine, crystal meth), prostitution and crime.

But a lot is being done to clean up the area and help its residents. This cluster shows a few of the social entrepreneurs and their businesses making a difference in Vancouver. It also includes other social enterprises whose intentions spread beyond the TDE, including environmentally-focused organizations and those offering support to women in developing nations.
