At the same time retailers and brands are making it possible for consumers to purchase entirely package-free products in bulk as part of their efforts to reduce plastic waste, paper packaging innovations are being introduced to make prepackaged products more sustainable.

Seed Phytonutrients disrupted the beauty industry when it launched a compostable bottle for its hair cleanser with a recycled paper outer shell. In the next few years, L’Oréal—which launched the disruptive beauty brand Seed Phytonutrients—is working towards introducing other paper-based packaging solutions for cosmetic products.

As well as seeing easy-to-recycle paper bags at retail stores, consumers can expect to encounter many more packaging designs made with bio-based materials in the next few years, including everything from beer bottles to dessert pints and candy wrappers.
