Chupa Chups Lollipops Have Received a Packaging Overhaul

— April 16, 2026 — Marketing
Chupa Chups lollipops have received a packaging update by brand owner Perfetti Van Melle to give them a more accessible profile that meets the needs of kids and adults alike. The updated packaging keeps the product's signature wrapped profile, but sees it crafted out of paper that's more easily removed when compared to the plastic alternative. The packaging is being rolled out across the brand's Mini Lollipops and Best Of pack, and can be easily removed by kids to maximize access and also support adoption in the impulse category.

Brand Manager Kim McMahon spoke on the new Chupa Chups lollipops packaging update saying, "A lot of thought has gone into how we evolve that in the right way, without losing what makes the brand iconic. For retailers, it’s a simple change, but one that’s rooted in genuine consumer insight and we’re looking forward to the wrappers being easier to open – and even harder to ignore.”
Trend Themes
1. Sustainable Paper Packaging - A shift from plastic to paper wrappers highlights opportunities to redesign single-use confectionery packaging around compostable fiber materials that reduce plastic waste.
2. Kid-friendly Accessibility - Easier-to-open wrappers emphasize user-centered packaging that prioritizes simple mechanical tears and clear cues for children and caregivers.
3. Impulse-driven Shelf Appeal - Bolder, tactile paper finishes indicate potential for packaging to combine distinctive brand iconography with sensory cues that increase grab-and-go purchases.
Industry Implications
1. Confectionery - Reformulated wrappers suggest room for product lines that balance brand heritage with sustainable materials to meet changing consumer and retail expectations.
2. Retail Packaging Manufacturers - Demand for easily removable paper films points to opportunities for machinery and material innovation focused on efficient high-speed converting of fiber-based wraps.
3. Packaging Recycling and Compostables - A move toward paper packaging creates prospects for localized composting and recycling supply chains that can handle lightweight, food-contact fiber streams.
