Cadbury Mini Eggs Came in Recycled Plastic Packaging This Easter

— April 22, 2026 — Eco
If you noticed that your Cadbury Mini Eggs came in a different package this year, that's because they were sold in a new recycled plastic candy packaging.

For Easter 2026, the food brand Mondelēz International teamed up with Amcor to create recycled plastic candy packaging for its seasonal Cadbury chocolate range. With the goal of making Easter a more sustainable holiday, the new Cadbury Mini Eggs were sold in bags made from 65% certified recycled plastic packaging. Additionally, the small and large Easter Cadbury tablets were sold in packages made from 80% certified recycled plastic. The recycled packaging was made using Amcor’s AmFiniti Recycled Content, which converts post-consumer plastic waste into new materials. Thanks to the initiative, 134 tonnes of post-consumer plastic was recycled, which is the equivalent of 70 million bags of Mini Eggs.

Trend Themes

  1. Recycled-content Packaging — Widespread use of certified recycled plastic in seasonal confectionery signals opportunities to reconfigure supply chains around reclaimed polymer streams and new material specifications.
  2. Circular Economy in Confectionery — Shifting holiday formats toward recyclable and recycled packaging reveals potential for business models that monetize return flows and extend product lifecycles.
  3. Post-consumer Plastic Upcycling — Conversion of post-consumer waste into high-quality packaging materials highlights prospects for technologies that turn low-value plastic streams into branded, premium substrates.

Industry Implications

  1. Consumer Packaged Goods — Fast-moving food brands adopting high-recycled-content packaging indicate room for product differentiation through sustainability-driven formulation and packaging partnerships.
  2. Packaging Manufacturing — Manufacturers integrating recycled-content technologies point to disruptive opportunities in developing scalable, certified processes and novel barrier or finish solutions for recycled polymers.
  3. Waste Management and Recycling — Increases in targeted post-consumer recovery for specific product lines suggest potential for specialized collection and sorting services that create higher-value feedstocks.
