Mondelēz International introduced new flexible packaging for its Marabou chocolate bars featuring 75% chemically recycled content, developed in partnership with Amcor, LyondellBasell and Taghleef Industries. The change applies to the wrapper film and forms part of Mondelēz’s broader effort to increase recycled plastic use across its packaging portfolio.
The updated packaging uses LyondellBasell’s CirculenRevive polymers, which are produced using feedstock derived from hard-to-recycle mixed plastic waste and attributed through an ISCC PLUS-certified mass balance approach. Taghleef Industries converts the polymers into base film, while Amcor produces the finished flexible packaging for Marabou. The material is designed to deliver virgin-quality performance while remaining compatible with existing chocolate packaging processes.
For consumers, the new wrappers reduce reliance on fossil-based feedstocks while maintaining product protection and shelf appearance. The rollout reflects growing collaboration across the packaging value chain as food brands adopt chemically recycled materials to support circularity targets and emerging recycled-content requirements.
