Plant-Based Packaging Agreements

Avantium Taps Amcor Rigid Packaging for the New releaf Packaging

Dutch company Avantium has partnered with Amcor Rigid Packaging USA to help promote releaf, its plant-based polymer polyethylene furoate (PEF), in sustainable packaging. Designed to integrate with existing PET recycling systems, releaf offers superior barrier properties for extended shelf life, increased strength for material efficiency, and lower processing temperatures that reduce energy use.

This collaboration supports Amcor’s goal of achieving net-zero emissions by 2050. The partnership will focus on developing rigid containers for food, beverages, pharmaceuticals, and personal care products, advancing eco-friendly packaging solutions across multiple industries.

“This partnership between Amcor and Avantium represents a significant step forward in advancing responsible packaging solutions. It combines Amcor’s expertise in innovative packaging with Avantium’s renewable and circular polymer releaf. This partnership enhances our efforts to offer customers innovative, packaging that is better for products, people and the planet," said Terry Patcheak, Amcor research and development and programme management excellence vice-president.
