Home-Compostable Beauty Pipettes

Shellworks' Compostable Pipette Consists of Plastic-Free Material

Beauty packaging is notoriously difficult to recycle because of mixed material components, but sustainable packaging innovator Shellworks is advancing the industry with a first-of-its-kind fully home-compostable pipette. This shelf-ready alternative to fused plastic, rubber and glass components is made entirely from Vivomer, Shellworks’ award-winning, plastic-free material derived from waste biomass such as plants.

Through a fermentation process, this material turns into a moldable, completely biodegradable substance that's as precise and high-performing as other materials used for packaging serums, oils and other products in the beauty space and beyond. "We designed this dropper to feel as good as it looks, and to disappear responsibly when it's no longer needed," said Amir Afshar, Co-Founder and Chief Product Officer at Shellworks.

The London-based company currently can produce 2.4 million compostable pipette units annually, with the potential to expand production based on demand.
