Paper-Based Cosmetic Tubes

L’Oréal & Albéa Collaborated on a Sustainable Packaging Innovation

L’Oréal and cosmetic packaging wholesaler and manufacturer Albéa collaborated to create an innovative paper-based cosmetic tube that's set to be introduced to the market in 2020 after a testing period in the spring. Although most cosmetic tubes are made from plastic, this new solution gives L’Oréal the freedom to replace the material with a bio-based and certified paper-like material. Some of the first products that will use the new paper-based packaging may include face or body care products.

As of 2025, L’Oréal plans for all of its plastic packaging to be rechargeable, refillable, recyclable or compostable. In the same year, the group is also working toward having packaging made with 50% plastic sourced from bio-based materials.
