Skulls always present a somewhat macabre image, and perhaps that’s the appeal in these scintillating skulls-inspired creations.

While most of the featured items here are human skulls, animals have also provided some scintillating skulls. Something about that hollowed-out brain protector inspires people to creative heights.

Implications - Mainstream pop culture has increasingly embraced the macabre, from youth-targeted movies like The Nightmare Before Christmas and Twilight to cable television shows for adults such as Dexter. Companies can take advantage of this expanding morbid market by releasing products with grisly themes of death, skulls, vampires or zombies. This gore-hungry market is also receptive to innovations inspired by visions of a dystopian, post-apocalyptic world.
