60 British Monarchy Finds

In Honor of the Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Celebration:

2012 marks the 60th anniversary of Queen Elizabeth II’s accession to the throne after the death of her father, King George VI. The Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee marks an enormous year for the United Kingdom, but especially for London, England, as they will also be hosting the 2012 Summer Olympics a month later.

The coronation of Queen Elizabeth II took place on June 2, 1953, over a year after her accession to the throne, and the Diamond Jubilee events will take place on the anniversary of that weekend in June. While Diamond Jubilee celebrations are taking place in all of the commonwealth nations, in London the weekend of events will include a concert and a maritime parade along the Thames River, and a national four-day bank holiday weekend.

With the resurgence of monarchy culture following last year’s royal wedding between Prince William and Catherine Middleton, the Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee celebrations are sure to inspire an additional puzzling array of monarchy-inspired products, art and events.
