50 Naughty Ads That Cross The Line

As the year 2008 is coming to an end, I figured it’d be interesting to compile a cluster of a recurring theme in advertising that has been on the rise: sexvertising, nudevertising, and pushing the envelope to new limits when it comes to exploiting sex and skin in ads.

It’s not only the fashion and alcoholic beverage ad campaigns that are getting more racy, even though they remain the majority. What is interesting is that we are seeing unlikely players such as major soft drink brands (Coca Cola), used BMW cars agencies, credit cards and even environmental recycling and organ donation PSAs get in on the flesh action.

Predictably, Tom Ford and American Apparel top our list with the highest number of sleazy and controversial ads, as they are the obvious suspects. But taking a look at the trends below (or seeing all the pictures at once) might surprise you with some of the brands that made it here.

Reportedly, Tom Ford will be toning down his upcoming ad campaigns and ditching the excessive sexual themes. But I am sure that someone will take over his spot, as one thing is certain, ‘Sex Sells.’ Let’s wait and see what 2009 will bring.
