Interestingly, these lyrical birdcages represent two conflicting notions to me. The first is the appreciation of nature’s beauty. The second, the capture and taming of nature’s beauty. Although the second does not change the idea of nature, it does take away from the former, for appreciation should entail respect as well.

Beautiful, lyrical birdcages have become a fixture in homes lately, but mainly for their vintage appeal. They hark back to the past when we caged these innocent creatures, and remind us that nature should not be held captive.
