Copenhagen’s Daydreaming Objects transforms vintage lighting components into modular, plant-based wax sculptures with its Soft Solids series. Each piece is handcrafted from natural wax, creating semi-translucent forms that reveal their textured interiors when illuminated by embedded LED systems that prevent heat damage to the wax.
The series includes several collections: Luminaire, which repurposes old light fixtures into wax-based designs, and Scoop, a range of small, rounded sculptures crafted from various plant-based waxes to subtly influence light color. Soft Solids highlights the studio’s commitment to modularity, sustainable materials, and adaptable design, allowing owners to customize and integrate these sculptural lights into any space.
The repurposed wax in Soft Solids can be cast into diverse shapes without breaking or melting during everyday use. Each sculpture combines newly molded wax volumes with vintage hardware sourced from mid-20th-century lighting pieces from Sweden, Italy, and former Czechoslovakia, earning it the Seoul Design Award 2025.
