Heirloom Floor Lighting

The Kinship Series Transforms Lace Textiles into Sculptural Floor Lamps

The Kinship series is a collection of floor lamps that repurpose inherited lace and textile heirlooms into functional lighting objects. Designed by Lana Launay, the project uses delicate fabrics sourced from family archives and vintage collections, wrapping them around custom metal frameworks that support and preserve the material. When illuminated, the lace diffuses light softly while casting intricate shadows that highlight the original patterns and craftsmanship embedded in the fabric.

Each lamp is constructed with a restrained structural base and integrated electrical components to support standard bulbs, allowing the textile shade to remain the focal point. Rather than concealing age or wear, the design treats imperfections and variations in the lace as part of the object’s character. Positioned as ambient floor lighting, the lamps prioritize atmosphere over task illumination.
