Keychain Utility Knives

Elko Gen 2 by the James Brand Rebuilds a Compact Everyday Tool

The Elko Gen 2 by The James Brand is a redesigned keychain knife built around a compact slip-joint format with updated materials and construction. The product was developed by Portland-based studio The James Brand, which rebuilt the original Elko from the ground up while retaining its core proportions. The knife maintains a 1.6-inch blade made from Sandvik 12C27 stainless steel, paired with a non-locking mechanism suited for everyday carry.

The updated version replaces earlier handle materials with CNC-machined aluminum, introducing a raised dot-matrix texture across the surface for improved grip. The closed length remains under three inches, keeping the form small enough to sit on a keyring without adding bulk. A nail-nick opening system supports manual deployment, while the slip-joint spring holds the blade securely during use. An integrated “All Things” tool is positioned at the base, functioning as a pry bar, bottle opener, and flathead screwdriver while also acting as the keyring attachment point.
