The Tiger & Turtle Magic Mountain Landmark for Ruhr 2010

Tiger & Turtle Magic Mountain is a giant rollercoaster-inspired sculpture that can be climbed up and walked on. The stunning structure is a new landmark for the Ruhr metropolis in Duisburg, one of the 53 German cities of the Ruhr metropolitan area that are associated with the European Capital of Culture RUHR 2010.

The structure by Heike Mutter & Ulrich Genth is on top of a mining waste tip made of steel and zinc, two materials that have been very important for the traditional industries of the Ruhr metropolis. The area is well known for coal mines and steel production, yet it's currently one of the most rapidly changing places in Europe.
