Nature-Inspired Rooftop Skateparks

Within Beyond Studio Designs the Qingdao MixC Rooftop Skatepark

Local design firm Within Beyond Studio created the Qingdao MixC Rooftop Skatepark found at the rooftop of the Wanda Plaza Mall. The space is defined by flowing curves and a cloud-like style of spherical domes which are inspired by inspiration from the sky and the sea alike. The space is meant for all visitors, whether they are skateboarders or not. The team was inspired by the relationship between the sea and sky and translated that with blue finishes and waved forms.

The studio notes, "Qingdao's breathtaking coastal scenery is a natural treasure. We've cleverly merged business with skateboarding culture, recreating an ocean on the rooftop terrace of Wanda Plaza and establishing a fresh social platform for skateboarders. This dual activation – both in terms of spatial design and movement – energises the entire terrace. The integration of skatepark features and routes, along with the seamless flow of commercial traffic, allows these two elements to coexist in harmony, blending without disruption."
