Record-Breaking Skate Megaramps

Red Bull's 'Building Drop' Turns Brazilian High-Rise into Ramp

Red Bull’s 'Building Drop' project transformed a 22-story government tower in Porto Alegre, Brazil, into what the brand described as the world’s largest skate ramp. Brazilian skate legend Sandro Dias rode the curved facade, featuring a temporary mega quarter pipe structure designed to match the building’s sweeping profile. The stunt earned him two Guinness World Records for height and speed on a temporary ramp, underscoring his enduring influence in the sport at age 50.

Dias started from 55m and progressively worked up to a 70m descent, controlling his board down a near-vertical line that visually echoed the building’s long-famous ramp-like shape. He reached a top speed of 103.8 km/h using a standard skateboard rather than specialized hardware. The ramp surface relied on plywood panels installed over the tower’s weathered concrete to ensure safety at highway-level speeds.

For audiences, the Red Bull Building Drop illustrated how architecture can become a temporary playground for action sports. The large-scale installation showed a growing appetite for city-integrated extreme sports spectacles that merge urban landmarks, content creation, and live event culture.
