From penny portraits to coinage used for branding purposes, currency is not just used for purchasing products. Artists have commandeered this commodity for artistic statements, and even the US mint has printed out special edition coins for certain occasions.

For example, the US Mint curved coin was recently released to celebrate the National Baseball Hall of Fame and its 75th anniversary. This is more of a collectors item and not for putting into circulation, but I'm sure you could fool a few people into thinking it was a dollar if you tried.
