The Pendulum Candleholder revises a traditional Japanese design by adding a hanging hook and a pivot mechanism to the classic portable candleholder form. The original was a candleholder used in Japan from the 1600s onward, and the new version was created by designer Dai Furuwatari through his iron products company. The piece is handmade from iron and is made to order, with delivery times of one to two months. It retails for approximately $158.
The design’s horizontal leg now functions both as a carrying handle and as a hook for wall mounting. A pivot built into the body allows the candle mount to be held at different angles. The candle mount itself is removable for cleaning. The iron material will develop surface rust over time if untreated, and maintenance with linseed oil or beeswax is an option to influence the ageing process.
