Rock Salts are a Key Ingredient in Happy Lemon's 'Salted Cheese' Beverages

Happy Lemon is a drink chain that specializes in iced beverages. This includes smoothies, a collection of milk teas, in addition to lemon-themed drinks and its Rock Salt Cheese series.

In a twist to familiar flavors, the Chocolate, Green Tea and Black Tea Salted Cheese beverages all make use of natural rock salt for seasoning. Since some types of tea can be bitter and chocolate can be overly sweet, the addition of salt offers a new way to cut through these flavors.

Rock Salt beverages are extremely popular in Asia and many creative consumers have taken to the kitchen in order to craft replicas of these salted drinks. As far as what makes up the creamy "cheese" that floats at the top of these drinks, it's a combination of ingredients like whipped cream, chilled cream cheese, sweetened condensed milk and pink Himalayan rock salts. Because these drinks are salted and iced, the cheese foam naturally floats.
