Gold leaf is often an accompanying garnish to luxury and premium foods, but Jonathan Cheban has decided to introduce a dish of 24-carat gold chicken wings. Debuting at the New York-based bar chain The Ainsworth, these wings will feature a full wrapping of gold leaf and will not just be a one-off but will be a permanent addition to the menu. The wings will range in price depending on the amount ordered, with 10 costing $30, 20 for $60 or 50 wings and a bottle of Champagne Armand de Brignac costing $1,000.
Aside from the inclusion of gold leaf, the gold chicken wings do not feature any other luxury ingredients. The wings themselves are soaked in coconut butter, chipotle and honey butter for 24 hours. The gold chicken wings are then fried and given their gold covering before being served with blue cheese dip.
