When you think about it, the hamburger is a pretty basic and straightforward idea. It’s essentially just a cooked meat patty sandwiched between two slices of round bread with a little added garnish. Once you take a step back and look at the some of the strange, humorous and downright ludicrous creations that diners and food franchises have cooked up over the years however, it’s truly astonishing what some people can do with such a simple concept.

Sure, lots of restaurants have signature sandwiches that might be a little out of the ordinary, but these brazen burgers fall into an entirely different category. For instance, there’s the braille burger, which arranges sesame seeds on the bun to spell a description of the toppings that can be read by blind customers; or there’s the canned cheeseburger, which requires hydrating and has a 12-month shelf life without the need to refrigerate.

With all the crazy condiment combinations and strange Salisbury steaks out there, it’s pretty apparent the hamburger has grown to become one of the most beloved foods in the world. So the next time you see a cow out grazing in a pasture, you should probably run up and thank it for all its bizarre cuisine contributions.
