When it comes time to help out your neighbourhood's birds, try building an eco-friendly birdhouse. There's really no way around it. If you're feeding the birds and allowing them a safe place to stay, then you're doing the environment a service and thus could categorize almost any bird abode as an eco friendly birdhouse. That being said, there are quite a few variations within this category.
The most obvious example of a specifically eco friendly birdhouse is one that's made of recycled materials like an old cigar box. You can create your own DIY project by finding something around the house you think birds might like to live in.
It's interesting that of all the animals we share space with in urban centers, we feel the need to provide shelter for a bird or two.
