B Corps (benefit corporations) have come a long way since its inception in 2007. The certification, which is somewhat akin to Fair Trade and LEED certifications, is operated by B Lab, a registered 501(c)3 nonprofit. Method soap and cleaning supply company was one of the first to be designated with the name, and is also one of its most popular examples cited. And Method is also probably once of the most successful. According to Inc. magazine in May 2011, Method's revenue is over $100 million.
Today, there are over 600 B Corps that are working to recreate what businesses mean, what they should do and how and why they should succeed. From ethical event supplies to localized renewable energy, B Corps span over 60 industries in 24 countries around the world.
