Communal Rural Market Layouts

Tjep and Vaastukalpa Architects Design This Space in Bangladesh

Amsterdam-based studio Tjep and local creative firm Vaastukalpa Architects focus on providing a space for the community to thrive in with the design of this rural market space. Commissioned by development organization Solidaridad Network, the project is said to bring together "Bangladeshi construction techniques with [a] 'Dutch flair.'"

The idea behind the Village Super Market is centered around being a tool for empowerment. The Solidaridad Network aims to assist "smallholder farmers, disadvantaged workers, and women in rural areas to generate income." This community-supportive project is heart-warming and an example of how the architecture industry can support artisans.

The rural market is said to fuse modern sensibilities with traditional construction practices in order to deliver an accessible space for educational and communal activities.
