Modern Vietnamese Dwellings

Tropical Space’s Tien Giang House pays homage to Vietnamese architectural traditions by blending classic elements with contemporary design. The project opens with a central courtyard that draws natural light, fosters cross-ventilation, and creates a communal gathering space.

Traditional pitched roofs, inspired by local vernacular, are paired with modern concrete, timber, and brick materials. Large glass panels engage the surrounding rice fields and gardens, connecting living zones directly to nature. The layout encourages family interaction while providing privacy for individual rooms. Inside, wood finishes and neutral tones accentuate a sense of calm and balance. The design bridges past and present, offering a respectful reinterpretation of rural living in a modern context.

By incorporating local craftsmanship and materials—such as exposed brick walls and timber beams—the house reflects a rooted context. The spatial sequencing reinforces cultural heritage through spatial openness and functional zoning. Bedrooms and private spaces are located at the rear, separated from communal zones but still visually linked to exterior greenery via floor-to-ceiling windows.

Durable materials and passive design strategies—such as overhangs and shading devices—ensure the dwelling stays cool and comfortable year-round in Vietnam’s tropical climate. With its thoughtful combination of indoor-outdoor living and vernacular references, Tien Giang House exemplifies how modern architecture can embody cultural authenticity while addressing contemporary family life.
