This plant-covered pier designed by UK-based Heatherwick Studio is a multi-level structure created for a site on the Han River near Seoul's Olympic Stadium. Dubbed The Leaf, Heatherwick Studio's design aims to rejuvenate the area around the Jamsil Olympic Stadium, built for the 1988 Olympic Games.
The pier would be shaped like a rounded eight-pointed star. It would be accessible through a connected walkway from the stadium complex's parkland. The dynamic public gathering space encourages playfulness and community spirit. Event spaces and an auditorium covered in an undulating roof are included in The Leaf's design. In addition, the architects envisioned the structure topped by a walkable, plant-covered roof with winding trails, play areas, and look-out points.
