Singapore-based startup Karana is looking to redefine meat substitutes with a sustainable product that is made with locally sourced jackfruit. Helping conscious foodies create a variety of iconic Asian dishes without animal proteins, Karana offers a Young Jackfruit cooking mix that is 100% plant-based and soy and gluten-free.
"Currently served up in a number of restaurants in Singapore, the company is looking to launch their products in Hong Kong by the end of this year. This comes as more food tech startups are catering to local Asian gastronomic tastes with a range of new vegan meat alternatives becoming popular amongst consumers in the region."
Taking advantage of local jackfruit and its meat-like texture, Karana relies on the ingredient to create an eco-friendly protein substitute that doesn't compromise on taste.
