It's well known that food plays a major part of U.S. culture, for better or worse, and Feasts by Julia Gillard takes a behind-the-scenes look at cookouts across the country to capture the ritual of dining with friends and family. From backyard barbecues to eating corn dogs at the county fair, she photographs nearly every facet of food consumption.

Julia Gillard is based in Brooklyn, and Feasts isn't the only series she's photographed that focuses on food. Another project called American Holidays features revelers throughout the U.S. celebrating national holidays; many of these photos involve special meals. Gilliard's focus on this family-focused tradition sheds light on the cultural fabric of eating and living in America and is a perfect series to enjoy on Memorial Day.
