This flooding warning app alerts farmers in Nigeria ahead of time based on river prediction data. The International Water Management Institute is just one example of smartphone applications being used to aid in environmental crises. Their app notifies Nigerian farmers when there is a risk of flooding thanks to a partnership with the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development.
The free WetIn app for flooding warning monitors rivers and streams in the Niger-Benue area. Using information from satellites, the Nigerian Hydrological Service Agency and the Nigerian Meteorological Agency, the mobile solution offers five day forecasts for rivers and potential floods. Users can see more data on water levels in rivers in graph form as well as how climate change is influencing the levels of water. Farmers can also obtain free publications on water management.
