Instagram recently updated the shopping system on the app, and the new features are powered by Facebook Pay. Facebook Pay was initially launched in 2019, and adapting the technology for Instagram Shop will help the platform redefine itself as a place for both social interaction and commerce.
The company indicates that Instagram Shop will be a place for users to scroll through products from prominent brands, as well as curated collections highlighted by the Instagram Shop account. Users will also have the ability to filter products based on different categories, including beauty, home, and more.
Instagram can also use its targeting capabilities to display ads to users on the platform, which may help to increase sales by displaying only relevant products.
