Social media giant Facebook recently announced the launch of a new 'Shop' tab feature, described as "a new place to discover businesses and shop for products in the Facebook app." The dedicated shopping tab is available on the menu and will display a range of businesses to sell directly to consumers on the platform. The feature also gives businesses more control over the appearance of their digital storefront as well as new design layouts, real-time preview of collections, and new insights to measure results, among others.
The new feature is a significant step for the social media giant's e-commerce presence, especially in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic which forced many consumers to shop online rather than frequent traditional walk-in retailers.
